Planning A Visit Gardens and Grounds The Homestead The Foundation Events

The 12th Annual Amos Herr 5K Honey Run is slated for Sunday, Aug. 28, with the Kid’s Fun Run beginning at 5 p.m., followed by the 5K run at 6 p.m. at Amos Herr Park.  This year the two popular events—the Kids’ Fun Run and the 5K Run will again be coordinated by Race Director Jeff Bradley.  We are returning to our original course, since the bridge construction on Nissley Road is complete.

Go to www.hempfieldrec.com  and click on the Dutch Gold Honey Bear for more information and to sign up!

Hempfield Area Recreation Commission and the Amos Herr Foundation and Historical Society are collaborating on the organization of this special event, to the benefit of both organizations.  Net proceeds benefit restoration projects at the 1852 Herr Family Homestead in Landisville and Hempfield Area Recreation Commission’s commitment to provide financial assistance to children and families who are less fortunate.

Additionally, since 2009, our “Run to Remember” special designation has raised more than $5,000 for LIVESTRONG®, the Lance Armstrong foundation, in memory of the late Fred Steele, Hempfield Rec Fitness Center employee.  Runners can designate donations again this year and receive a special t-shirt for this donation or just add an additional amount for this good cause.

Volunteers are still needed for race day--contact Board member Laura Dalton at 898-3102, ext. 38, or ldalton@hempfieldrec.com for information.
